The cognac colour is anodised into the aluminium surface, which is why it wears far better than a painted coat. Once the body is finished, the lens rings, buttons and logo detail are plated at 5–7 microns and refitted by hand.

The back is never covered in metal, so Cognac keeps MagSafe and Qi2 charging up to 25W, Face ID and every lens Apple fitted.
