Gold MacBook Pro vs Gold MacBook Air: Which Luxury Laptop Should You Choose?

Choose the Gold MacBook Air if the laptop travels with you every day and you want the lightest, slimmest option. Choose the Gold MacBook Pro if it sits on a desk or studio table and you need more ports, a larger screen option and the more powerful chips. The plating is the same on both: the aluminium case and the Apple logo in 24K Gold, Rose Gold or Platinum, 5 to 7 microns deep. What differs is the machine underneath, and that is what this guide compares.

Lighter and slimmer

Gold MacBook Air 13-inch

One configuration: M5, 16GB, 512GB. Apple lists it at 1.13 cm thin and 1.23 kg before plating. From $ 13,290.

More ports and screen

Gold MacBook Pro 14-inch or 16-inch

14-inch M5 with 16GB and 1TB, or 16-inch M5 Pro with 24GB and 1TB. From $ 14,490 up to $ 16,990.

What is the same on both

Both are genuine, factory-new Apple laptops, or your own device if you choose the client-supplied option. GoldPrivé plates the whole aluminium enclosure: lid, palm rest and keyboard surround, and underside. The Apple logo is coated together with the lid, so it reads tone on tone. Keycaps, trackpad, screen and camera keep Apple’s own finish.

All three metals are priced the same within a design. Both laptops are made to order, come in a leather box with a certificate of authenticity, and carry the same customization warranty terms. Neither is rated against water, so a customized MacBook is not a laptop to keep near drinks.

Wireless caveat. Both listings state that a plated case may slightly affect Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. If a steady wireless link matters to your work, ask your consultant before you confirm the order. Both also weigh a little more than Apple’s figures, which is why those figures below are Apple’s own, before plating.

One detail only the listings show: the Pro’s speaker grilles are plated along with the case, while the Air has no equivalent grilles. The Pro listing’s photographs are of 24K Gold, and Rose Gold and Platinum share the design. The Air listing says openly that it has no photographs of the Air itself yet, so its images are a plated MacBook Pro illustrating the finish.

Which one fits how you work

  • You carry it daily: the Air is 0.32 kg lighter than the 14-inch Pro on Apple’s figures, and thinner by 0.42 cm. Plating adds some weight to either, so the gap in your hands will be close to this.
  • You work with external gear: the Pro has HDMI and an SDXC slot built in; the Air does not.
  • You edit video or photography: the Pro’s XDR display and the M5 Pro on the 16-inch are the reason to pay more. The Air is a general-purpose laptop.
  • You want one clear choice: the Air is a single configuration. The Pro asks you to pick a size, and anything beyond the listed builds, such as M5 Max or more memory, is quoted by your consultant.
  • You gift it: both arrive boxed with the certificate. The Air is the lower entry price, and both can be engraved with a name, monogram, signature or company emblem once the design has been approved.

Looking after either one

Use a dry, soft, lint-free cloth. Keep scouring pads, abrasive pastes and chemical sprays off the plating, and keep hand cream, perfume and make-up away from the metal. Fingermarks show on a mirror surface. Plating cannot be promised a lifespan, so read what affects plating durability and the GoldPrivé Care options for refreshing or recustomizing later.

Questions buyers ask

Is the frame or keyboard plated?

The entire aluminium enclosure is plated. Keycaps, trackpad, screen and camera are left as Apple built them.

Can I have a MacBook Air in 15-inch?

The listed Air is the 13-inch. A 15-inch Air, or more memory and storage, is quoted separately by your consultant.

Do ports and the keyboard still work as normal?

Yes, according to both listings: ports, keyboard, trackpad, screen, battery and speakers work as supplied. The one stated trade-off is a possible small effect on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
