Why the Body Styles Aren’t Interchangeable

These gaps are far larger than any case can absorb. The Air falls between the two Pro models in footprint, 6.2 mm longer and 2.8 mm wider than the Pro yet 7.2 mm shorter and 3.3 mm narrower than the Pro Max, and it is barely two-thirds as deep as either. A Pro case would not close around an Air, and a Pro Max case would leave it loose.

iPhone Duo: The Foldable Exception
Apple unveiled iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, on 9 September 2026; before launch it was widely referred to as iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra. Pre-orders open on 16 October, it goes on sale on 23 October in more than 70 countries and regions including the UAE and the UK, and it starts at $1,999 in the US. The Duo pairs a 7.6-inch inner display with a 5.4-inch outer display, measuring 5.3 mm thick unfolded and 11.2 mm folded, with a titanium design, a precision hinge and Touch ID in the side button. Apple has not published its weight.
Because the Duo changes shape as you use it, only a case designed specifically for iPhone Duo applies. It has to accommodate the hinge and allow the phone to fold and unfold, which no case made for a Pro, Pro Max or Air attempts.
