Scarlet’s red is anodised into the aluminium surface, so the colour stays even and does not chip like paint. The lens rings, buttons and logo detail are plated at 5–7 microns and refitted by hand once the body is finished.

The back is coloured, never plated, so MagSafe and Qi2 charging up to 25W, Face ID and every camera keep working as Apple intended.
