Leather Personalisation in Dubai: UV Printing with Sun Studio

Sun Studio, a UV printing studio in Al Quoz, Dubai, prints full-colour artwork, logos and names directly onto leather and PU leather, with no minimum order. What Sun Studio’s UV printing offers

Sun Studio describes UV printing as ink jetted directly onto the object and cured by ultraviolet light, with nothing applied over it. Its website lists:

• Full-colour artwork: logos, photographic artwork and Arabic calligraphy.
• White ink: so brand colours hold on dark and coloured leather.
• Individual names: a different name on every cover, with no extra setup.
• No minimum order: from one printed cover to a full gifting run.
• Raised effects: a logo built up in layers of ink so that it can be felt.

Each of these depends on the material being suitable, which is what the sample is for.

Raised UV printing and pressed embossing

A raised UV effect is built from ink. The logo or pattern is printed in layers on the surface of the leather, so you can feel it, and it can be full colour. Traditional embossing and debossing work differently: a die presses the design into the leather itself, without ink. Foil stamping and laser marking are separate processes again.

Sun Studio offers raised UV printing. It does not offer pressed embossing, debossing, foil stamping or laser marking. If your brief needs a pressed or foil finish, we will say so plainly.

Material testing and care

Leather is where a sample matters most. This is what Sun Studio says to keep in mind for every application above:

• Genuine leather and PU behave differently, so the first step is identifying which you have and its finish.
• The finish decides adhesion. Heavily waxed or silicone-treated leather is a poor surface. Suede and nubuck absorb ink differently, so fine detail softens.
• Flat pieces print better than assembled ones, because seams and stitching interfere. Print before assembly where you can.
• Placement matters. A print on a working fold can crack, so rigid panels and areas away from folds are safer. Keep printed leather away from heat.
• Wear depends on use. Resistance to rubbing, scratching, water, alcohol and cleaning products depends on the leather, ink, preparation, curing and use. It is judged on the sample, not promised in advance.

How a request works

1. Send: a sample piece if possible, with the item, quantity and artwork.
2. Review: the material and finish are identified and its suitability confirmed.
3. Test: your actual leather is printed and the sample is flexed and checked.
4. Approve and produce: once you approve the sample, the batch is printed, checked and packed.

The customer normally supplies the items, and Sun Studio asks for a spare piece of the same material to test on.
