Nothing announces jewellery quite like a chain, and the Sovereign Link Gold Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra lays a heavy curb-style one down the right-hand edge of an otherwise mirror-smooth rear. Each one begins as an unopened, unlocked Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra; in our Dubai atelier the rear glass makes way for a new panel, and panel and links alike are plated 5–7 microns thick in Rose Gold, 24K Gold or Platinum. It anchors the jewellery end of the Ultimate designs in our gold Z Fold8 Ultra collection.
Everything else is kept quiet so the links can speak. The lens surround is finished to match, the metal is named in small type beside a GoldPrivé mark lower down, and no pattern competes for attention. As on every foldable we make, the hinge and the frame it belongs to are never plated. The three metals carry a single price.
A Goldsmith’s Detail on Samsung’s Engineering
At close range the appeal is contrast: a flat mirror of a panel, then rounded, chunky links raised above it, with the polished lens surround as a third outline. Our work ends there. Plating never goes near the folding mechanism, the frame stays as it left Samsung, and the inner and cover screens, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, the 200MP camera system and the battery remain sealed and standard.
The phone therefore behaves like any other of its kind, with Galaxy AI, 5G, eSIM and Samsung’s updates unaffected. What a metal rear takes away is contactless convenience. Neither the wireless charging field nor the NFC signal Samsung Wallet needs can cross it, so charging happens through USB‑C and tap-to-pay is not available on this design.
