Obsidian Gold Apple Watch Ultra 4: Precious Metal, Quietly Worn
Some clients want a gold watch that only reveals itself on a second look, and the Obsidian Gold Apple Watch Ultra 4 is made for them. Our Dubai atelier takes a factory-new Apple Watch Ultra 4, coats its Grade 5 titanium case by hand in 24K Gold, Rose Gold or Platinum, and mounts it on Apple’s Ocean Band in plain black. Of every commission in our gold Apple Watch Ultra 4 collection, it is the most restrained.
Black does something no other strap colour can: it steps back. With the band disappearing against a dark sleeve or a gym top, the eye goes straight to the gleaming outline of the case and the crown. In 24K Gold that frame reads bold; in Platinum the watch becomes almost monochrome. And because the Ocean Band is sporty by nature, Obsidian moves from a morning run to an evening meeting without looking out of place at either.
A Plated Exterior Around Apple’s Untouched Core
The plating, 5–7 microns deep, goes onto four surfaces: the titanium case, the Digital Crown, the side button and the Action button. On the strap, just two small parts take the same metal, the buckle and the loop. The black band is Apple’s own ribbed tube of fluoroelastomer, left unplated and unaltered. We never open the watch, so its flat sapphire crystal, display, S11 chip, sensors and battery remain exactly as they left Apple.
The sensor back is also left bare, in Apple’s original dark finish. Because it is untouched, the magnetic puck locks on normally, and sleep score, temperature sensing, workouts and every watchOS update run as on a standard Ultra 4. For fit, the band gives a touch to stay put and the buckle takes care of length.
What Apple Built Into Obsidian
These are Apple’s own numbers for the Ultra 4 as it ships, since Obsidian is built on the genuine watch. Weight is not listed, because plating adds a little. Apple’s Ultra 4 specifications give the rest.
Straight from Apple, the Ocean Band was created for water sports, but a customised Ultra 4 is no longer water resistant. Obsidian should therefore not be worn for diving, swimming or showering. For everyday upkeep of the plated case and the band, see our cleaning and care guide.

Which parts of Obsidian are plated?
Four parts of the watch: the case, Digital Crown, side button and Action button, each at 5 to 7 microns. On the strap, the buckle and loop match them, while the black band, the sapphire crystal and the sensor back remain Apple’s.
Is Obsidian built on a genuine Ultra 4?
It is. Each one begins as a new Apple Watch Ultra 4. The chip, sensors, compass, Siren and watchOS are unchanged, as is Apple’s battery rating of up to 50 hours.
Will Apple’s charger still work?
Yes. The included magnetic fast-charging cable sits on the unplated back as usual, and Apple states that it reaches 80% in around 45 minutes.
Can you engrave Obsidian?
We can. Submit your wording through our engraving request form, and your GoldPrivé consultant confirms the text and position before we start.
How big is the case?
The Ultra 4 comes only in 49mm, so Obsidian does too. The Ocean Band is adjusted at its buckle, so you can fine-tune the fit yourself.

Is Obsidian suitable for swimming or diving, and is the warranty affected?
Please keep it dry. The Ocean Band is Apple’s design for water sports, yet this customised watch should not be used for diving, swimming or showering, as it is no longer water resistant. Apple may regard a customised watch as modified, which can affect the manufacturer warranty, and GoldPrivé Care covers the customised parts.
How is Obsidian different from its sister Ultras?
It shares Apple’s Ocean Band with two siblings: Atlantic in navy and Glacier in pale ice blue.
